Tottenham is the Soul of the Centre in the Heart of NSW.
With the Centre of NSW Cairn being 41 km’s (30minutes) west of the Town, Tottenham is the nearest town to the centre of New South Wales
Tottenham was proclaimed a village on 6th November 1907 following the discovery of copper in the area. The population of the town is 330, and it services and sustains an overall regional population of 1000. With the advent of the copper mining came the railway, allowing the region to build a very strong primary production sector based on large scale cropping and grazing. The region now specialises in the production of wheat (and other grains), prime lamb, wool, beef, sport, lifestyle and hospitality.
This unique rural town has defied the trend and has continued to improve its facilities and services. The secret is simply community unity and location being perfectly situated just 1 1/2 hours drive (140kms excellent sealed road) from the City of Dubbo,
the ‘Hub of the West’. Tottenham is just far enough away from Dubbo to keep its residents at Tottenham (resulting in a high level of civic pride and commitment), yet close enough to Dubbo to travel for major requirements. Tottenham has won the NSW Tidy Towns Competition twice in recent years (2002 and 2004).
Tottenham boasts outstanding facilities including a new Health Centre (Hospital) with full-time Doctor, outstanding Central School, Swimming Pool with large and small pool with extensive shades, seven grass flood lit Tennis Courts with new combined Club House shared with Cricket Club and a variety of sporting activities, a very active Lions Club, a great Race Course Complex with Motor Cross Track, outstanding Pre School, four Churches, a leading Grain Terminal, excellent basic shopping, one exceptional Hotel plus the popular licensed Bowling Club and Golf Club with restaurants. Tottenham has its own fully equipped Ambulance with full-time Paramedic supported by a pool of fully trained local Voluntary Ambulance Officers and a newly refurbished exceptional Airport.
